We're looking into setting up a security camera system around our institute, and I was wondering what are some of the suggestions regarding standalone cameras, that can be easily plugged into the network [and used with zone minder of course].
Since I'm not much of an expert in this field, I assume we'd want the following features available
- quality of the picture [so you can actually recognize faces/etc, which would be helpful to police]
- high fps [so you can capture enough frames to recognize people's faces]
- security [so we can restrict access to the cameras, and have only one server allowed to access them]
In addition, [this may be far fetched], are there any products available, that you would recommend, that would support basic night vision?
Currently I'm testing zone minder with 3 usb cameras hooked up to one linux box. Frankly, quickcam pro3000 has the best quality. Of course, it's an usb camera, thus it has limits. However, picture wise it is darn good.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: networked cameras
Hi Dominik,
I think there are two main manufacturers of network cameras, assuming you mean IP based ones. They are Axis which does a large range, though they get expensive very quickly and D-Link. I have a D-Link one and I'm not really all that impressed with the image quality to be honest. I've trialled an Axis from someone else's site and it looked much better.
