Blue Screens, Modprobe.conf
Blue Screens, Modprobe.conf
Is there anyone out there who could assist me setting up my video card? I have tried many modprobe.conf settings per suggestions from the excellant forum and of my own attempts.
My system specs: zm v1.21.4; FC4 (dual boot Win2000)
I have blue screens for my four cameras. The zm / nph-zms servers are running but the caption under each camera reads:
Status: idle .21 fps - (yes, between "."21 - "."55 fps!)
On the zm web interface I have:
Sources - /dev/video0(0); /dev/video1(1);/dev/video2(2);/dev/video3(3);
I have tried various setting within the "options" link.
The video card is a 4 input single chip Conexant Fusion 878A (other markings 25878-13 E349772.1 0316 Taiwan).
It is similar to and has what appears to be the same chip as the one from the post: http://www.zoneminder.com/forums/viewto ... =9936#9936
Also, on the board is a Sunny Sco-060 28.6363Mz 03-04 Crystal Oscillator.
I have read other post regarding this type card but I am not having any luck with setting up my card.
I have tried switching from zms to nph-zms. Those servers do run.
When card=77, the zm log files are good and /var/log/messages do not contain any ERR messages. However there are "open / closed session for root / apache" messages that I do not understand. But the screen remain idle and blue.
I have moved the card to different pci slots.
checked and unchecked Options-Config-ZM_STRICT_VIDEO_CONFIG
check my permissions on files also.
Below are outputs from booting the system without a modprobe.conf file to get a plain "snapshot" of the device.
Any hints, suggestion, pointers are greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Anthony

I'll have a bit of time in a couple hours to work with you on this if you would like.
Your settings for that card should be:
/dev/video0(0)
/dev/video0(1)
/dev/video0(2)
/dev/video0(3)
and card=77 is correct.
All monitors on that single chip must also match (image size, and color pallet).
This alone might help you out, but if it don't I'll be back a bit later.
Regards,
Corey

Gents,

I'm gona cheat the discribing the alias, from cli
man modprobe.conf
alias char-major-81 bttv
man modprobe.conf
I whould also drop the second alias so that you havealias wildcard modulename
This allows you to give alternate names for a module. For example:
"alias my-mod really_long_modulename" means you can use "modprobe my-mod"
instead of "modprobe really_long_modulename". You can also use shell-
style wildcards, so "alias my-mod* really_long_modulename" means that
"modprobe my-mod-something" has the same effect. You can’t have aliases
to other aliases (that way lies madness), but aliases can have options,
which will be added to any other options.
alias char-major-81 bttv

Hi,
I am still getting the blue screen. There is a flicker of a black horizontal line / bar that periodically goes across the screen.
Cordel, it will take a day or two to configure the camera client on the lan, redo the iptables to open access to the camera client for you. Then I'll send the information to you.
Here are the Source settings
Device Path : /dev/video0
Device Channel : 0
Device Format (0=PAL,1=NTSC etc) : 0
Capture Palette : RGB24
Capture Width (pixels) : 384
Capture Height (pixels) : 288
Orientation : Normal
What else should I look for? What other ideas to try? I am wondering about the "open / closed session for apache / root" in the /var/log/messages. Any ideas?
Thanks
Anthony
