engine-k

Post by vdleun »

Hi,

I'm searching for a PCI capture-card and found one using 4 bt878A chips which supports 1-16 camera's. The ad also mentions Engine-K compression, about which I can't find much on the Internet. Is this hardware- or software-based compression? And if it's hardware-based does this automatically compress the output from the 878's or can I just use the bttv driver in the kernel without the compression??

Best regards,
Alexander

I think thats something you want to ask the seller or manufacture about.
"Engine-K compression" I myself have never heard of it either. I think it might be possible that whom ever might have came up with "Engine-K compression" might have done so while suffering from cranial-rectumitis.

I would try to stick with the well known standards my self :D

Yes, I send him an email. It seems to be hardware-based and it's automatically used when capturing... well, I'll keep searching on... : :)

Well, I guess I have Cranial-ructumitis :?
I have one of these cards which are also known to be Kodicom 4400R and have this Engine-K wavelet compression algorithm.

Never knew. I will need to dig into this a bit.
