Cannot specify composite input on Winfast TV2000 card?

Post by dan-s »

Hey, I have a Winfast TV2000, which detects in Linux (Debian - 2.6 kernel) fine. In syslog I have the following:

Feb 7 07:15:23 localhost kernel: cx8800[0]: subsystem: 107d:6611, board: Leadtek Winfast 2000XP Expert [card=5,autodetected]
Feb 7 07:15:23 localhost kernel: cx8800[0]: Leadtek Winfast 2000 XP config: tuner=38, eeprom[0]=0x01

So it appears to load fine, and previous I installed full GUI on debian and I got the capture card working using a capture program (forget the name, now). However I then reformatted it and didn’t install the gui, and I am now trying to set up with little lucky. :-/

The card has three inputs.. the TV ariel, a composite and svideo (composite and svideo are on the same cable.. there’s a lead that plugs into the card with both connectors).

No matter what I do I cannot get Zone Minder to show the picture (I have it in monitor mode right now) .. it just shows the IE error as if it couldn’t load the picture. There is no error in the apache ‘error_log’.

I am not sure if I am doing it right, as when I had the GUI installed (before I reformatted) I had to select either tuner, composite or SVideo.. and I haven’t done that anywhere with Zone Minder.

Does anyone know how I specify that?

Those are chosen by the channel, Just for example:
(0) for the tuner
(1) for composit
(2) for s-video

My be a little different like 1 for tuner and 2 for composit but thats how it works.
Also unless you have cambozola, or ffmpeg installed and setup correctly, MSIE does not support mjpeg streams natively. Your best bet is to use Firefox or something that does support mjpeg till you get a handle on things or use cambozla so that you may use msie.

So its the channel, not the /dev/video? .. because I have alot of /dev/video0 .. /dev/video1 .. right through to 63 or something?

Cheers for the Firefox comment, download it now!

And when I change from 2, to 1:

Doesn't return anything with the command you tell me to type, but when I do just dmesg I get this..
It takes up the whole output of the command.. so i'll only post some of it (unless you want more?)

:? That can't be good.
You might try:
zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v

But I am really interested in what your system detected and loaded. But this might help.

Okay so your configuration should be:
/dev/video0
chan: 0

and start with RGB color and 320x240

It still just doesn't show an image. When I get home from work, i'll install X again and find out the settings that I was using in the capture program... its getting too frustrating now. lol

I'll let you know how I go.

Ok, I reformatted and installed a GUI. I got xawtv capturing stills fine. The /root/.xawtv file looks like this. (I deleted the commented lines..)

[global]
ratio = 4:3
freqtab = europe-west
pixsize = 128 x 96
pixcols = 1
jpeg-quality = 75
keypad-ntsc = no
keypad-partial = yes
osd = yes
osd-position = 30 , 20
use-wm-fullscreen = yes

[defaults]
group = main
norm = PAL-N
input = Composite1
capture = grab
color = 43%
bright = 64%
contrast = 22%

However I still just get a image that indicates that theres no image. I saw in another thread to type
export QUERY_STRING='mode=jpeg&monitor=1&scale=100&maxfps=5'
then: /var/www/nph-zms

to see if it was actually returning a picture, and it isnt. I have tried on channel 0, 1 and 2 with /dev/video0

I am really confused.. any ideas anyone??

Have you tried using zmu, with the -t and -i flags, to check that images are actually being captured in the first place?

You can query the card through xawtv as well.
xawtv -hwscan

Night help shed some detail.

looking for available devices

type : Xvideo, image scaler

/dev/video0: OK [ -device /dev/video0 ]

The zmu -t -i: Didnt output anything at all? I also did a find for all .jpg and .jpeg files on the hdd and couldnt find anything?
