Please be gentle as zoneminder is my only working Linux App... Still playing with Asterisk...
I have been using Zoneminder with two MV1000s which has shown me how good Zoneminder is and how poor the MV1000s are...
I have taken the plunge and bought the following card http://www.simplyautomate.co.uk/product ... rodId=5462
but have made no progress on setting it up in Zoneminder.
Using TVTime, which was bundled on the LiveCD I used to install Zoneminder I can see the image from my camera but I cannot find the settings it is using to transfer to Zoneminder.
I realise it is a very basic question but I need some low level detail on how to configure this.
Thanks in advance
Nigel

Cordel,
Thanks for the quick response. I have attached the results of dmesg | grep bttv.
I hope you can do something with this... I will also try to install the other TV App to see if that helps me... I have connected a receiver to the card (UK SKY TV) and I am very impressed with the quality under the TVTime app. Getting this working with Zoneminder should transform it...
TIA

Settings confirmed
Hi Cordel,
I had used the settings you suggested in the first place, during an early satges of installing zoneminder I did have a USB camera working for testing using similar settings.
For a short while I did get an image, but it seems a little hit and miss. I was able to change settings 'on the fly' to tey to get the correct settings, RGB or YUYV or YUV etc...
However, I have not seen an image for some time now...
I understand it is good practice to restart ZM after changes as sometime they only take effect after a restart.
I also wonder if the Capture Card may have hung and if the PC requires a Power Cycle, the card has a watchdog connection (which is a bit worrying) and this may be an issue with capture cards ?
The machine is a PIII 733Mhz with 512M which all though not the fastest should be adequate. I understand the Capture Card does most of the processing? The web interface typically 0.25 - 0.35 load (I assume this relates to 25 - 35%?) which is relatively high but again not excessive?
I am still amazed how good the image is using TVTime, I am trying to install XAWTV but my linux skills are causing me problems, not sure how to install a tarball, is their a good idiots guide somewhere?
Thanks again for your help
Nigel

The best thing to do is look around in the logs and see what error you are receiving. Check zmdc.log, zmpkg.log, messages, and the apache error_log.
Also tvtime, if you press the [enter] key will show you what video source it is currently using.
You should also be able to see some of the attibute info through its menu.
Also with the tvtime window active, you can press [s] on the keyboard and see if you can get a snapshot (the method that ZM uses).
The big question is what is working vs what is not? Are you getting a black/blue screen or a broken link icon? In the watch screen what fps is being reported? etc....
Regards,
Corey

Logs, logs and more logs....
Cordel,
Thanks for sticking with me on this. I'll try to provide the info you requested.
I stopped ZM and cleared out the logs. I then restarted ZM to try and capture the relevant info in ZM logs

TVTime shows 'composite 0' on the left when I press 'Enter' with a large '2' in the left hand corner. If I change to Composite 1 I get a blue screen.
If I press 's' in TVTime a .png file is saved, it looks as if the date / time makes up the file name.
Having 'played'with the settings again today I have seen the broken link symbol and a black screen. I Know ZM is sensitive to vert/horiz resolution which I am guessing at the moment... Also not sure which format RGB - YUV, I know it's not Gray. The screen is reporting 0 FPS.
I still have two images working in ZM using the MV1000. This are running at about 1 fps.

Thanks for sticking with me on this. I'll try to provide the info you requested.
I stopped ZM and cleared out the logs. I then restarted ZM to try and capture the relevant info in ZM logs

More info...
I have found the .png images on my desktop.
Using the picture viewer I can see the attributes.
The image size is 720 x 576 and a size of 1.2Mb !!!
Is this something that ZM can manage?
I have changed the setting for my capture card in the ZM I/F appropriately/

Latest UPDate !! IT's Working !!
Cordel,
Finding out the screen size and being able to use that seems to have done the trick...
Thanks for your help again...
I'm just off to see if I can break it now...
