I've not tried one but it looks like a 206 with mpeg, audio and a possibly a better sensor (and maybe a nice clamp!).

If it's like the other Axis cams it should be pretty good though!

Anyone have a 207 working? If so, any info would be appreciated.
I'd like to order one. Thanks!

I ordered one at the beginning of the month and it's due to arrive any day (so new the stockists haven't taken delivery yet).

I'm pretty confident it'll work as great as all the other Axis stuff I have (4 206's and two 211's (Chosen for their PoE ability).

The only question mark I have is how the audio is broadcast in mjpeg mode, possibly a java wrapper? The audio's not essential for me to use in mjpeg and ZM though, but I'll be using that in the mpeg4 streams.

(Unit intended for use in a horse welfare situation, and also spare/temp camera for the security system) to replace the truly AWFUL Linksys Wireless-G IP-camera that isn't worth a damn.

Happy to post here when it arrives.

ok,

just updating everyone...

as of today the AXIS 207 with firmware 4.22 works, but doing 5 fps the camera crashes after 2 days...

i contacted there support and we found that that pulling the images with the url i use

/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=640x480

causes a memory leak in there firmware...

took them 2 days and i have a so called beta firmware right now which works fine for 2 weeks without any crashes...

207w

Ok, installed and working. Pretty much the same as the 205/206 and 211's I've setup. Similar configs and options.

The video side - choice of mjpeg and MPEG4 (set for user-choice by default)

Camera senses browser and adjusts MPEG4 output accordingly (configurable). Uses Activex (IE/win only), Quicktime stream (universal), Java applet (universal, but huge system hog) and Stills.

Mjpeg obviously doesn't support sound. (Curiously, the sound was disabled by default - strange choice!)

The quicktime stream seems to the best solution for me. Unfortunately if you follow the links you get taken to Apple's download site which tries to sent you the combined Itunes/Quicktime package, seems they don't supply QT on its own any more). Not to worry - I heartily recommend googling for "Quicktime alternative" instead - a free QT plugin that works with Firefox and doesn't load the seven kinds of crap that the official plugin does. (Something stupid like a 36mb download!)
The MPEG4 stream is a bit slow - gave a 5-second latency on tests on a fairly quiet 100mbit lan. Not really a problem for most uses.

Anyway - audio seems ok. Good quality, but I caught some echoing-stutter on one test.

Wireless is great - ONCE you figure out that you've got to unplug the lan cable you set it up with before it would even try to connect. (blush) But it works with wep or wpa nicely, range seems very good (was picking up 3 of my access points), goes to 54mpbs (-G). LED's on camera show connection status of wifi as well as wired.

I didn't need to upgrade the firmware - things worked out the box - although I've only had it running a few hours straight now, time will tell if it does crash after a long time.

Supplies Zoneminder mjpeg and multiple mpeg4 streams just great.

Really nice well-thought out camera like every other Axis cam I've got. I mean seriously - if you *can* afford them, use them. Compared to some of the crap that's out there at the lower end of the price market they're in a completely different league. Firmware that tells you that these guys know what they're doing and every possible use you can think of for your camera they've already covered. Has literally ten times the settings and twenty times the functionality that POS Linksys 54g camera this replaces had.

Ooh, a bit more info.

Firmware 4.33 - Sound gives faint clicking noise all the time in activex and qt feeds, suggesting the problem is camera-side. Can hear sound fine, just it's sometimes drowned out by the background fuzz. Possibly caused by flourescent lighting. Asking Axis for support.

Just had a reply from Axis support - they've reproduced my audio problem (phew!) and are referring it to technical. Hopefully they can do something with a forthcoming firmware release.

Quick update:

It seems I've caught the "Camera stops responding after xx hours" thing too, using latest published firmware. Going to add a timer switch to it today to force a reset once a day until they fix it.

1 week after submitting a bug report for the audio (intrusive background noise) and hearing that it'd been passed to the techs, no reply.

I still think it's a great camera, but maybe a couple of bugs to work out of the firmware yet.

Dear -madmax-

Can you tell me where i can fined the betafirmware(4.33) for the axis 207(not W)?
I can't fined the betasoftware on the axis site. it's seams that i have the same memory leak.

Thanks,

I'd also like to know about the firmware. I just ordered an open box Axis 207 for $139! Not bad. I hope everything's there :)

The 207 arrived today. Firmware 4.22 as expected ... I opened a ticket with Axis to get newer firmware. It works; the image quality is better than I expected.
