ZOne settings for modetect

Post by major_kong »

Hello
I am trying to run motion detection on cameras surveying large indoor areas. (warehosue). None of the presets work well. They end up not detecting people walking around but detecting small light changes. So it would highlight parts of a wall or floor. Could anybody sugest good settings for cameras running in large open spaces.[/img]

The problem is all vmd (video motion detection) works on seeing if the image has changed from a previous image. Even though zm's algorithm's go well past this, it is still looking for a change in image. Obviously light will cause a change, power, interference etc.

Also if you have really wide angle lenses, the targets will be so small that the sensitivity will have to be so high that i would expect it will constantly alarm.

Unfortunatly even though i understand how vmd works i still cant set it up like an expext i just try things and see what happens lol!

Disclaimer: The above is pure theory and may work on a good day with the wind behind it. etc etc.

All things are possible and the example someone posted a while back of detecting trucks and buses, but not cars, passing over a distant intersection is probably appropriate for you. What I would suggest you need are quite high pixel differences (indicating difference from the background) and pretty small counts of changed pixels or blob sizes. You might find it useful to turn on diagnostic images initially (and only for a while as they slow everything down a lot) which will output what ZM things the differences etc are are in the images. You may be surprised at the results.

What setting would that be? Min/Max Pixel Threshold ?

Correct, though I would not worry about the maximum setting initially.

In case it's useful, this thread is where the truck detection example links are posted. They look like they are still up.
