problems streaming with windows media player

Post by davide »

First of all, I am happy I found this great software, it is just amazing!

Here's my problem:

Streaming mpeg with IE windows media player's plugin (version 9.0) shows nothing and in the details it says "End of File". After about 4 seconds just below the plugin I see things like this

Hi Davide,

I'm not 100% sure but I have a feeling that I've seen something on the ffmpeg list about them still working on trying to get asf to work with WMP9. I have 8 on this PC but I'll check when I get home what I have on there. If it's 9 then that's not it so I'll dig a bit more.

Any news?
Did anybody successfully used Windows Media Player 9 (any of you using XP) with ZoneMinder?
(I wish I could blame my PC for this...)

Hi Davide,

Yes I have WMP9 working. Maybe try the latest 1.19.1 but there's not a huge amount different for MPEGS except for a changed content-length header. However it worked here on all versions so it might not make any difference for you.

I installed 1.19.1 and now WM9 works OK!!
jpeg streaming was not working but after changing zms path to nph-zms works well..
The problem was exactly the content-lenght (before was always 0, interpreted as end of file).
Just a couple of things left not working well but may be my system, let me how it works for you (the problem could be my WMP9):
1) If I have more than 1 video sources in montage view: jpeg streaming: all OK, mpeg streaming: video sources not synchronized (5 secs or more between them)
2) from second video source on (the first works ok), using WMP in fullscreen mode FPS goes down from 4 to 0,2 or less
3) sometimes the mpeg stream stops for some minutes

Hi Davide,

Using mpeg streaming in montage mode is a bit of a gamble to start with. The video quality is calculated using an arbitrary bitrate from configuration. This usually works ok for single views but when you are looking at several streams it can overwhelm your connection. However synchronisation is more likely down to the fact that WMP likes to buffer several (I think at least 5) seconds of output before displaying any at all. One thing you can experiment with if you get pauses if the 'timed frame' setting on Options->Video, this might make a difference.

Personally I like MPEG for replaying events but still use JPEG streaming for the live views.

Hi Phil,

"Personally I like MPEG for replaying events but still use JPEG streaming for the live views."

do you mean you use jpeg for the montage and mpge for the events. if so how do you set it so it's different for both.

Regards

Paul
