sound recording

Post by krzys31337 »

Hello.

I'm aware of: http://www.zoneminder.com/fileadmin/dow ... EADME.html saying it'ts on To-Do: "Add sound support..."

But what status it's now? I might be adding some sound-recording to working zm-system and thinking about things like microphones, audio_in on soundcard and mp3 compresssion.

My very basic idea is: capture 600 sec waves with mono (1 mike from DVB card ) plus 2 channel audio_in from mainboard sound card and produce 3 mp3's.

Any comments?

Audio will be awesome. I assume it will be an option in each monitor ir what audio device top associate witht this input. I only really seeing being usefull on mocord or record modes where it records like the video in time segments. Most of the time you dont need audio but whe n you do you might only want one or 2 locations. IP will change this as audio is integrated and people will expect it. We are gonna have some pretty big var partions soon.

Right now i'm producing .avi files instead of bunch of jpeg images and have "x2-5" /var saveup :) mp3 copressed files, even with silence are "cheap" in space. And mixing audio+video (w/ good fps) into 600s avis is some thing that would be awesome.

ok. from my point of view you are right.
But "The Client" makes the rules and after all:
a) 2.6 Ghz cpu capturing 4/8 sources will be still in good shape when creating avis.
b) Saving harddrive space is my goal
c) joining video with sound seems "laggin" and i'm going only to show separate buttons "download movie[avi] download sound[mp3]" in Events tab. So U R right./

you know you say sorry for your poor english?
dont its spot on

Ilike flexibilty id rather through hard disks at it to get more time than take away flexibility. As zm can make mpg etc after the event from jpg's id rather have that flexibility.

I'm trying to be as flexible as possible with sound support. Thus you can have a video monitor (the same as now), an audio monitor (just triggers on noise) or a combination one with both. What gets generated at the end in terms of videos etc depends on what type of monitor you have set up. The hardest bit in all of this is synchronising the two feed really. Currently also there is no audio only compression in there and audio files can get very big!

Sounds great. Flexibilty is a must but are there many applications where sound only ie sound with no viseo in an ae will actually be required?

The other key feature going in along with audio is a facility to allow monitors to trigger each other. Thus you may have a mic somewhere not directly associated with a camera, on detection of sound it could trigger all nearby cameras to start recording regardless of whether they have detected motion. So it would be more of an area defence thing really!

So have a mic associated with a group of cameras?

Yes. But I need to find time to finish it all off before it can be released so it won't be in the next few weeks I suspect.

If ZoneMinder had audio, it would be one of the very few Audio/Video security solutions availible. All of the security software I've tried over the past year have been video only. It is awsome to see ZoneMinder as the absolute best solution that even $1000+ packages can't touch.
