Backup Solution Help!

Goodday,

i am in need of a backup solution for a bank the needs instant access to the data, whether its 3 months ago or yesterday.

what solution should i be looking at? backing up sql data via script every day to dvd seems like a plausible solution but how will u be able to play a movie of a incident that happened i know when looking for a incident you can reference the time line to trace an event...

If you want access through the console the best solution would be to have a raid 50 array. It would allow instant access to events while maintaining some redundancy.
Otherwise you might want to backup events to a DVD on a daily basis.

I have intended to backup to DVD on a daily basis from the start. The only think I am braking my head about is how to automize the backup to DVD in a format that would allow me a instant playback. Is that possible. has anyone any idea?

Not sure how I'd do the dvd, need some clever scripting I'd guess.

You don't mention the size of the installation - how many cams, how they're recording - the amount of data you need to backup, but how I'd do it:

Have a large enough HDD or array that you can keep your 3 months data on the main server running "live" - so you can view and review as and when.

Either/both mirror that locally, or preferably, use rsync or similar to mirror that drive to an offsite location for security. Have that one setup so it can be swung into use quickly if required (dns etc so that if A goes down, clients need only to access a new url to reach the backup - you could even use the same url if you have ability to tweak dns)

If you have a lot of events then the hardware requirements for the single server may need to be increased - large sql databases can be a tad resource hungry.

Is that too simple or did I mis-understand?

'oh no...

having large disks is anyway on my agenda but i want to wright today's events in movie format to dvd disk daily... is this possible?

if i knew the command that makes the movie file and if i knew how to just send todays events thru that command i am sure it is easy to write a script / add record todays events tab in Zoneminder!

with this in place Zoneminder will be a serious contender in CCTV applications "don't get me wrong it already is!"
