pb with zm service (ubuntu)

Post by breizhbug »

Hello,
I'm newbie in linux and just installed ZM 1.22.1 on ubuntu (debian) distrib.
Even if install process was hard, everything is now installed.

When I try to launch ZM with http://localhost/zm/zm.php I have this error :

Warning: fopen(/usr/local/etc/zm.conf) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Permission denied in /var/www/html/zm/zm_config.php on line 26
Could not open config file.

I don't understand what's happen.
Would you please help me.
Thanks
Pasque

Does the /usr/local/etc/zm.conf exist? If so who is it owned by?

Great !!
The problem was here. I just adjust privileges and I can now access to web pages.
Remember, I just started linux since 2 or 3 days ago...
Thanks

If you have had to manually adjust privileges then it implies that possibly the web user or group you specified in configure may have been wrong in which case you will probably hit other problems down the line. What were the privileges on the config file?

NO, I don't find it. I just worked with doc file and some others tuto speifics to debian found on internet. But it is not so simple. Lot of package missing to be installed.
Actually, I can reach ZM with another PC connected to the ZMserver but server isnot started and I don't find which command replace chkconfig --add zm on ubuntu.
Other issues : No video available on screen, Some letters missing in French version of menu....and so on.
It seems to be a good soft.

You can pretty much follow the instructions from Debian Install Guide and you'll have zm working in ubuntu :)

I think someone would need to package it for that to work on ubuntu. I use synaptic on pclos and as its not in reps as no-one has built it i have to use the mandraje rpm's but i think on ubuntu you will have to build from the source

Yes, i've build it from source code.
ZM software is now installed and run but is stopped (service not started)

I can't find how to add zm service's in /etc/init.d because I don't which command is equal to :
chkconfig --add zm on ubuntu.
I would like to know how add a service and start it.

Zoneminder on ubuntu

Post by mrezmu »

My first post to any forum ever.
Thanks to all who have contibuted to ubuntu, zoneminder and related forums.I have been using ubuntu about four months I've tried several distro's in that time. Ubuntu was the one that seemed to have the most stuff working on install. I'm sorry I can't be much help here but...
I have ubuntu updated to 6.06 running on two machines one amd 64 and one x86 with ati video cards. Zoneminder 1.21.3 on the x86 runs ok but I don't know how to get around in linux and I can't say exactly how I got it all working except that I had to read almost every result from google seaching zoneminder +ubuntu and zoneminder +debian and mostly following the debian
instuctions(and I didn't understand a thing just copy and paste). The zoneminder I used is a debian package posted in a forum. So anyone trying to get zoneminder on ubuntu it can be done. I am a NOOB and would like to stay one so switched from xp to ubuntu now I'm being called a geek cause I can do in ubuntu what I couldn't in xp.I run a recording studio and if firewire audio would work with the firepod and I could get my mdb access data base working I could quit windoz. Now I'm trying to figure out how to upgrade zoneminder
but I'm finding nothing.I don't know what info I could post to help others but I'll try and watch for requests, unfortunately I don't read these forums religiously. Zoneminder works great but seeing the guy break in to your friends car when you're not there
doesn't stop him, evan with signs and visible cams.
Thank to everyone involved in open sourse.
Cheers for the end of ms.
