Network (IP) Camera Selection Criteria

Post by homespy »

Hi,

I'm not able to find how Zone Minder uses network cameras (eg. does it look in a directory where the camera dumps its images, does it poll the camera, etc..). I haven't set anything up yet, but in the process of gathering all the hardware. I realize that many cameras were recommended in the forums, but I was wondering if someone can shed some light on how zone minder uses Network Cameras and what specific imaging methods it should support.

Thank you.

jpeg get!. it issues a http request to the camera in much the same way a browser would, as long as the cam supports jpeg or mpjpeg then you ok, mpeg is not currently supported

MPEG Support

Post by homespy »

In looking at Network Cameras, I noticed that most newer types support MPEG4 compression exclusively. Is MPEG4 support planed in the next release of ZM? Is there a current beta test for MPEG support that I can experiment with?

Thank you.

I know Phil plans to try to implement mpeg support at some point but it will not be the next release and what is available here is the most current code.
I suspect it will take a bit of work to do and might take some time.

Corey
