ServeRAID support
ServeRAID support
How difficult would it be to update the liveCD so it has ips.o built-in for support of IBM ServeRAID configurations? Without it hardDrake doesn't recognize devices attached to an IBM ServeRAID controller.
Already included is
/lib/modules/2.6.7-2.tmb.6mdk/kernel/drivers/scsi/ips.ko.gz
I have no way to test but you can try "modprobe ips" and then look at the output from dmesg
To load the module at boot add a line to /etc/modules
If you want support built into the kernel rather than a module I think all the tools to build a custom kernel are present (depending on which livecd version you installed) or you can add them from the preconfigured ftp sources.

Ross,
I was incomplete in my question, I'm sorry - the module does show up with modprobe, the problem is that I wanted to install on a machine with a serveraid card, using the serveraid attached drives as my / partition (Raid 5, fancy, though affordable with effectively free 9gig drives and a $20 ServeRaid card). The LiveCD won't recognize the card. It doesnt' find it in HW probe and it seems - and this might not ultimately prove to be the whole answer - that it would if it had the ips module built in. There may be something else it needs at the HW config stage too... I'm downloading Mandrake Move and will try recognizing it with that. The gentoo liveCD sees it, as does the fedora-based Remo Live CD, so I know it works. Booting from it... now that might be another story...

update
Fedora Core recognizes the serveraid card correctly. Unfortunately the install gets part way through and errors out. I can't get the Mandrake liveCD to recognize it. The Gentoo liveCD and Remo install both do, but there are issues with each.
