FTP upload

Post by djsb »

I have a windows software that retrieves images from the webcam and then uploads them to a FTP server.

I would like to know if zoneminder would have the ftp server it can read the uploaded images and create a monitor based on this uploaded images.

I cannot use other clients with HTTP server built in because the webcam is on a private network that cannot have a public ip and the zoneminder server cannot reach the webcam windows aplication.

Best regards,

Does it ftp them to a webserver?

Because I'm fairly certain that yes, you can point a ZM monitor at *any* HTTP-accessible image on the web (weather maps, TV shows, what have you), and specify a frame rate, and have it work.

No doubt others will chime in with corrections, and extensions, but I remember reading in the doco or the forum that you could "chain" a monitor onto another one for some purpose, which suggests that you could do what you want to.

you could do it that way but you will have issues with sharing, ie if the windows box is writing to the ftp server as zm tries to pull the image off there would be problems. Im interested in this topic but i think that its complicated

ftp

I've seen that zoneminder could read from a local file and use that jpg as the camera source. The problem is when the webcam is uploading the image to the ftp server there is a time where the file is overwritten and if zoneminder tries to display the image it is sometimes corrupt.

I would like to know if there would be a way of a remote webcamera push a stream into the zoneminder server in a way that we could get a decent framerate...

Thanks
