avermedia card works well

Post by caseystone »

Just wanted to let people know I've had good results with this card:

AverMedia DVD EZMaker PCI

This card usually goes for about $30, but the last one I picked up at Fry's was only $20 for some reason.

It is a single port capture card, 30 fps. Has only a composite (RCA) jack and an S-Video jack. I have had my system running well with two of them installed, and when I get my updated machine running I will be trying four cards.

No tweeking was required to make it work with my installation from Ross' LiveCD.

Hi,

It's very nice.
Could you please show more detail in your work? How to configure this card to work with zoneminder, etc?

No configuration is required.

The first card is Device 0, next is Device 1, etc. Device Channel is always 0.

I actually have five in my machine now -- works great. With all of my PCI slots full now, I would have to move to a multi-port card if I need to add more cameras though!

Hi again,

Thanks for your kind reply.
Could you give more detail in your platform?
- CPU: ? Hz
- OS: Fedora?
- CCTV camera: which camera are you using for?

I will go to get it now for testing.
It's really nice work.

Let's see.. I'm running Cordel's CTU 1.21.3 iso install, it is a 32-bit FC3-based setup.

I've got an Athlon 64 3200+ (2ghz core speed) Socket 939 CPU in a Gigabyte Mobo that has 5 old-fashioned PCI slots -- if you want to go this route, get one (or two!) now because they are disappearing. I think I have 1 GB of Ram, a boot hard drive, and an "events" hard drive. Using two drives this way may improve performace a bit, but using one drive is fine too. My "events" drive is 250GB I think.

I have a few different types of cameras. A good place to shop for them is Bluecherry.com -- they used to and probably still do offer a "Zoneminder" discount. Not sure if they ship overseas.

I also have a cheap dlink IP camera that is almost useless -- definitely uselss at night. So now I have 6 cameras doing mostly 8 FPS, some 10 FPS, I buffer about 18 frames. Most cams are 500x376 resolution (not sure how I came up with that!) and the IP cam I backed down to 320x240 once I added the last camera and card since the CPU seemed to be getting a bit too taxed.

With this setup now my system load is usually under 1.0.

I'm happy.

Hi caseystoner,

It works now,and it seems that it's great!
Thank for your info.

FPS can up to 40FPS (when test over LAN), don't know why but the quality is really good with cctv infra-red.

It's nice job.

Do you test with another card which support more than one video input?

Julien:

Glad you got it working.

No... a multi-port card is probably months or years off for me.

Would you mind putting an entry in the Wiki as well, if it's no problem. It's usually easier for people to find than trawling through the forums.

Phil:

Are you asking me to post my "sample setup" in the Wiki?
