listener with jpeg's

How would one best implement audio recording with ZoneMinder. I know there is a project 'listener' which records audio, but since ZoneMinder stores it's files in individual jpegs instead of mpegs, how would this be best implemented. If someone would point me in the right direction, I might be able to help get this code started.
