Reboot/shutdown issue using LiveCD 1.22.2.1?

Post by no2u »

Using a fresh install of LiveCD 1.22.2.1, if I select Shutdown or Reboot from the "Start Menu" or from the menu that pops up when I right-click on the iceWM desktop, all it seems to do is close all open applications. The system never shuts down or reboots, although if I right click again I see a "Cancel Shutdown" option on the menu.

If I open a terminal window and do "sudo shutdown" or "sudo reboot" then it works fine. I will stick with this approach unless anyone has any suggestions. Thanks!

You could edit the Start menu using menudrake and add "sudo" to the command.
Or you could switch to KDE from IceWM.
I'll fix this issue in the next release.

I could not find the Logout->Shutdown menu option in Menudrake, but I did find that I can modify the shutdown & reboot commands in the /home/guest/.icewm/preferences control file (and also I can modify this file to change the desktop background to something more appealing than cyan carpet). Regarding starting KDE, in case there are any other newbies out there like me that don't know how, I'm finding some good information on http://wiki.kde.org. Thanks!
