Sony SNC-M3W support ready for testing.
I actually did the Wiki entry first, not just because I'm a huge proponent of Wikis, but also because I thought I'd upload the patch file to the Wiki page or gallery.
In the hurry I was in, I was only able to find an "upload image" choice in the Wiki.
So I posted on my site, and put the link in the Wiki page I made for the camera from the "Supported Hardware" page - under the new "Sony" link.
I'll also go back and cut and paste the first post in this thread as temporary instructions for setup...
What's the proper method for uploading stuff - to the distro (CVS submit), the site (admin posts it), the Wiki (user embeds or posts), or...all three?

We usually host things on our own site, and i for one prefer this as it keeps updates easy. I carry a few things for other people so if you want me to host it here on my site or here on your own mini site let me know

Already there!
Although the instructions specify using 320x240 during the setup, the truth is this:
Whatever resolution you configure the camera for using the built-in IE/ActiveX webserver, you can then set the ZM camera settings to that same resolution, and VIOLA! - that's the operating rez.
So, set the camera to 640x480 in the built-in IE/ActiveX webserver, and then set it's rez to 640x480 in ZM, and you're stylin'!
I specifically wrote the instructions for 320x240 because you need to do the camera-setup-two-step - configure the camera using the built-in IE/ActiveX webserver, and then configure it in ZM, and 320x240 was a good speed/rez compromise. I didn't want anyone having trouble getting the initial code to work on the first try.
Of course, you can also set it to lower than 320x240 if desired as long as you realize that whatever you set the built-in IE/ActiveX webserver resolution to, you MUST set that matching resolution in ZM...
Now, go clog up your network with huge video streams, like *I* do

gneuf, i am trying to get the 640 x 480 resolution to work but am having no luck:
my camera setup is as follows:
source:remote
function:mocord
enabled:checked
FPS:5
remote host name:user:password@ip
remote host port:80 (the port they where all sending video traffic through by default ... snc-m1w)
remote host path:/mjpeg?speed=5
capture width:320
capture height:240
orientation:normal
all i did to try and get 640 x 480 working is log into the camera using IE, changed to 640 x 480 with cropping off (only available in this mode) and then i went into ZM and changed the capture width to 640 and the capture height to 480... at this point the IP in ZM goes red and i no longer have comm with the camera but i can see the 640 x 480 image if i log into the camera using IE...
any ideas ?

I would expect you have a shared mem issue which is nothing to do with this contrib. See the faq re cannnot shmget. Alos check your logs

thank you for the quick reply James, i passed the argument in sysctl.conf and rebooted ... now the camera is communicating fine in 640 x 480 ... but i still get no image ... just black blankess or sometimes a broken image link in stream mode ...
i think this should be a slightly simpler problem to remedy so i am starting my search but please please if anyone has an idea of what i am still missing do help out
oh and thank you for writing this code so much Genuf, if it was not for you we'd be stuck with the crappy sony software...
thanks again James...
still grinding to get it working but progress was made thanks to you guys...

Right off the top of my head, I'd say you need to delete all the detection zones from the camera, and then create a single 639x479 zone to check if you're using a version of the ZM code that had problems with the fudge-factor - e.g. one too many pixels in the detection zone causing a calculation problem and dropped images.
What's your ZM version, and do the logs contain complaints about zero divides, or empty zones?
I'll test a camera here with switching from 320x240 to 640x480 and let you know what happens...

ok guys ... i made some minor progress but am still confused ... so here goes ..
i am using 1.22.2...
i tried to delete the detection zone and add a new one, no picture still...
i tried to raise the shared memory even higher (its a 1 gig system, no biggie), no picture...
then i started to mess with the camera settings... got a picture
i had to set the res to 640x480, limit bandwidth to 2.0 mbps, and put image quality to level 1 (lowest)... its definately not the network, its a brand new 24 port gigabit cisco switch...
so whats choking ? i am low on ideas at this point...
i checked the error logs... only one shows a error:
