Axis 206(W?) questions

i have an Axis 206 camera, i just finished installing zoneminder, im having a hard time getting it to work

i originally set up the camera to force people to log in to see the view, but zoneminder doesnt seem to have a method for entering user/pass for a camera, so i turned that authentication off

but still i get errors, no matter what, whenever i try to start zm, either from the webscript, or from zmpkg.pl start it still saws 'stopped' when i look on the webpage

it logs this:

im using mostly default settings
i set the remote host path to: /mjpg/video.mjpg
i have no idea what its supposed to be, i just saw a few people on this forum said they used that, but as far as i know they never got it to work with that setting..

i also set 24bit color, 640x480

i checked the other logs and they dont seem to show any errors

i read in the readme this has to do with shared buffer sizes but i dont know what to do about it

well im completely out of ideas...

if anyone has the axis206W (im sure dozens of you do, thats the only reason i got it is because so many here say its great) please post your settings

i changed the image size to 320x240, 8 bit color, 5 fps
it still gives me the exact same error, even the same size

why would it asking for the same size if i cut all of my requirements to 1/12th of previous?

you need to pass the settings in the url or setup for 320x240

if you check the wiki faw for cannot shmget in your logs it will tell you how to how to fix it.

I use 206's but use jpeg mode and use

/axis-cgi/jpg/image.cgi?resolution=640x480

as my path

also if you enter in the host

<username>:<password>@<ip>

you will be able to pass auth info to the cam

well im completely out of ideas...

when im stuck i tend to read the manual most of this is in there

also you are starting with a distro that has less support on this forum than fedora or mandrake. If your new i strongly advise using one of the ready made distros

well i tried the shmmax shmall stuff, it didnt work, when i rebooted it went back to what it was at before

i also tried using 320x240, i didnt get any error this time, but the logs are going out of control, looks like its making requests nonstop, but i dont see a URL or a get... something seems wrong it bogged the computer down hardcore i had to just kill it

i think ill try one of the premade images later

you have to edit your system file to make the changes permanent...like it says...

What do you mean with requests non stop? isnt that what you want?

there are also a ton of debug logs springing up, like a pair of them every so often

they all end with:

the console window still always shows zone minder as 'stopped', even though the logs seem to query the remote camera many times successfully before dying out

but never shows anything other than stopped..

i tried another image and its just not gonna be an option
i couldnt figure my way around it, there were plenty of info on installing it to the machine but i dont want to if i cant figure out if it even works

plus it didnt like my network card

it seems to be just going along fine in the debug log
everything looks about right, it has lots of OK responcies, lots of 'expecting XX bytes, recieved XX bytes..

then:

Sometimes the web page showing 'stopped' when everything else is ok means that there are permission issues with the web server being able to execute zmdc.pl. That might be worth checking.

The select timeouts mean basically that ZM get fed up waiting for your network camera to respond, usually because your network has a problem or the cam has locked up. Are you using individual image captures or mpjpeg streams?

It's difficult to make a call on the overall health of your system from the limited log entries posted so far. Can you post a longer section? Do you see any of the video streams in ZM?

i tried it with 1.1, and 1.0, and regexp, on and off
neither worked, i saw select timed out both times, ill check the permissions, that sounds like a pretty reasonable explaination of whats going on, and it did screw up some of the other permissions which i had to manually fix (zm.conf was not webserver read/writable, also its in an unusual place for ubuntu)

well i checked the permissions
/usr/local/bin, has only zm files, i changed them all to be zoneminder:www-data

i also added /usr/local/lib to my ld.so.conf and ran ldconfig

i noticed there are some perl modules? or some sorta libs in there , only zm libs, no other libs, im not sure if maybe this is part of it, i saw in a fedora tutorialthat fedora needed those so i added it

it still doesnt work, same problems, same log

the debug look appears to be problem free till that select timed out right? i dont know what to expect, but it mostly seems like those are good things
