Not getting an image and 0 fps

Post by sleeper0110 »

So I have zoneminder up and running, I'm pretty sure my media cards are being detected correctly and the bttv driver is being loaded. When I add a camera I get no picture (not even a blue screen) and it says 0.0 fps.

Also, when I add a camera I use the default 600 for "section length" yet I seem to be getting serveral events ever second.

I know my camera isn't the problem because when I hook it up to another zoneminder machine, it works just fine.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

if your getting blue screens then your card hasnt been recognised

what distro what card what have you done to modprobe etc etc

Always ALWAYS on issues with cams use tvtime or xawtv.

Here is some more info:

OS: Fedora Core 5
Card: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture
(That taken from lspci -v)
the bttv driver is automatically used, so I haven't done anything with modprobe.

I took your advice and installed tvtime.l The camera works great with tvtime, so I think the media card and camera should work with zm. I know the camera works with zm because I have tested it out on another zm system.

I'm thinking I have misconfigured something in zm.

And again, the symptoms are that when I add a camera, I don't get a picture, it says 0.0fps at the bottom of the "camera screen". But it seems
to be recording multiple events per second even though I have the section length specified as 600.

Any ideas or help would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Might be helpful if we knew how you configured the system and what you have to to troubleshoot.

Maybe I should mention I'm in authentication mode, if that helps (so I hade to use -U and -P in the zmu command above).

Anybody see anything obvious?

Thanks.

What does dmesg say about your card? Did it load? As what?
Are there any related errors listed in any of the logs mentioned in FAQ?
Etc.

Hi,

I've got the same problem! I use a Haupauge PCI card with a BT848 chip. It works fine with xawtv, bot overlay and frame grabber mode are working.

All logs seemed to be ok, my installation is up-to-date gentoo with glibc 2.5

the only thing I can see in the log file /var/log/message is this
Oct 27 18:38:54 www2 zmwatch[6195]: INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' started at 06/10/27 18:38:54]

Oct 27 18:39:05 www2 zmwatch[6195]: INF ['zmc -d /dev/video0' started at 06/10/27 18:39:05]

anyone any ideas what to check ?

I found the reason, at least for my problem. I lowered the pixel resolution to 320x240. The manual says you should copy the values from zmu, but those settings didnt work!

Now all fine !
