ffmpeg params

hi,
I'M try to use fffmpeg to generate a mpeg movie.
I have some questions:
1- when it is called? (in modetect, record or mocord)
2- wich are the defautt parameters used ?

1 none, it is called for non jpeg based streaming or when you create a video manually
