Odd Behavior With a Bttv 878 card

Post by jayson.barker »

Hello,

First of, Merry Christmas!

I have searched the forums for a couple of days now, hoping to find solutions to my problem. I have managed to get the card working alot better then before by specifying card type 77,.

I am unsure to the exact make of the card, but it came bundled with the Pico 2000 software for windows, which is no use to me as i am using Linux, but a quick google revealed it was infact a 878 card, and i should use type 77.

My issue is that the image displays with a distorted view, and i have scanlines over the image such as:

Image

the Camera is a Swann Nightvision camera from Maplin and is PAL. For some reason i get ( ever so slight ) improvements with it set to AUTO for the device format.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards

Jay

Hey,

Yes it was an ebay special  , My boss at work bought it for me.

The card looks identical to this:

And it has the words UCL UCC4 on the back of the PCB.

I specified the options in the modprobe.conf

This is the line i added to the bottom of /etc/modprobe.conf:

options bttv card=77 tuner=-1

To be fair, i have not tested the camera, the card worked fine in Windows With another Swann cam, i will go test the other Cam now.

Thanks Jameswilson for your pointers. As usual, your tips help me get my system running sweetly.

Adding options bttv card=77 tuner=-1 to /etc/modprobe.conf fixed my el'cheapo ebay bt878 card and make spring to life in the LiveCD of v1.21.0. Actually, it looked like it was in NTSC mode, and I have PAL cameras.

I wanted to try these cards as you can pick them up for about AU$30 delivered. (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... :IT&ih=017)

Time to order 2 more cards and a few cameras (plan on 12 total), then i can remove these USB cameras I have on my WinXP machines using dcam and apache :P

Regards,

KegRaider.
