Post by Oli »

Hi,

I have followed the instructions in the manual but hit a problem when I enter

apt-get install zm

it tells me I have a broken package - libavcodec2

I am new to linux and can't find this file anywhere else

Thanks in advance,

I downloaded from here http://ftp.ubuntulinux.org/ubuntu/pool/ ... /f/ffmpeg/ and used dpkg to install it (and for libavcodec2).

Code: Select all

dpkg -i ffmpeg_0.4.9-pre1-0.2_i386.deb
dpkg -i libavcodec2_0.4.9-pre1-0.2_i386.deb
or whatever is relevant for your machine.

It all seemed to install ok after that.

Hope that helps.

By the way i am newish to linux, been messing with it on and off for years, but this is the first time i've really tried to use it in anger.

Koenzie Debian manual - I'm stuck (Debian stable: 2.6.8-2-38

Post by tobkron »

Hello,

I'm stuck at step 2 (page 7):
edit - /etc/apt/sources.list
since I do not understand the following lines:
Copy the XS4ALL deb line and change stable into sarge (press ESC and x to delete)
(press ESC and yy to copy, ESC and o to add an new line and ESC p to past)

Copy the XS4ALL line again and change stable into etch
In my file, I don't have these lines. Do I have to insert these from somewhere ?
Here is what I have in my file:
#deb file:///cdrom/ sarge main

deb ftp://ftp3.nrc.ca/debian/ stable main non-free contrib
deb-src ftp://ftp3.nrc.ca/debian/ stable main non-free contrib

deb http://security.debian.org/ stable/updates main contrib non-free

deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ experimental main
deb ftp://ftp.nerim.net/debian-marillat/ sarge main
deb http://www.spic.net/zoneminder/debian/ ./
deb-src http://www.spic.net/zoneminder/debian/ ./
Is that sufficent ?

Thank's for your help

Criticism...

Post by stackbit »

Some well -meant criticism:

1 - .doc? Why not a html version? It's just a "save as" in openoffice. There are people installing this in bare-bones instalations with lynx as the browser.

2 - Lacks instructions on putting mpeg to work on debian. (i don't know how to)

3 - Any news on a 1.22 version on debian yet?

Thx for your work.

Post by whocares »

by zm distro, do you mean the live cd of zm? i tried it and had alot of bugs n glitches, wich i dont have in my debian install

a few examples (live cd glitches:
browser crashes alot on most machines (firefox)
dimensions of windows appear 50% of what they should be (browser popups and stuff)
zm forgets to add a camera or craps out when you add one
