Absolute Beginner Camera Problems

Post by andrew »

Hi I have ZM installed on xubuntu, I am really strugglering on getting my camera to work with zm, I have read the Wiki, Readme without any joy.

I have a PV 155 card, and a B/W camera connected to the VID1

I have a picture in xawtv but just cannot get zm to be happy with the device settings.

Can anyone tell me the path of the ZM files to run zmu?

At present I have this set up but I have a red dev/videoO
Device Path: dev/videoO
Device Channel: 0
Device Format: Auto
Capture palette : Grey
Width: 320
Height: 240
I get a picture for approx 15 secs and then it goes Black, if I set the Device Format to PAL the dev/video0 goes green and then there is picture again for a few seconds and then Black again.

Also could I put a request for a Absolute Beginner Talk section in the forum to help confused, tied people like me !
Thanks

You need to make sure you are using /dev/video0 and not just dev/video0 though I don't know why you would get any picture at all with that typo.

What do you have in your logs?

As I read in the forum, the readme.txt instructions start to make sense when you begin to understand Zoneminder, and this is very true.

Just go step by step and things begin to become clear...

I was just trying to run before I could walk, this is just great software.
