Fsck and me...]

OK so... 2 machines, been using Zoneminder for about 6 months now, both of them have had numeorus problems with filesystem (using CTU core..) i am in the middle of fsck on a 320gig, so i can't check the type of FS, but IIRC it;s ext3

The system itself uses 90% of this drive for video, so that 90% (in this setup i didn't make /dev seperate.. but in future installs i will) of this drive is non critical data. Is there way to set up the filesystem where it doesn't have to constantly check the data in the event of corruption in that 90%.

I am in process right now, so the details of what when why are coming about, and I will post more...

so yeah tune2fs is how you change the check intervals etc. But this is stated as Bad JuJu... i think for my next install:

/dev is gonna be it's own monster

no LVM

/dev (own parition) = few fsck checks

any thoughts?

CTU server down?

Post by Mr Camouflage »

I downloaded the fc3/zoneminder iso this week and burnt a cd.

Got the machine installed, but cant yum update, i guess because the ctu server is down? I've tried for the last couple of days with no success.

I just get:
[root@localhost ~]# yum update
Setting up Update Process
Setting up Repos
Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: ctu-updates-released

Cant get to the website either.

Anyone know when it will be back up?

Other than that zm seems to be working. The next challenge is to try and get some cameras installed (i'm a bit of a linux noob). I have the FC3 iso's, can someone point me in the right direction for a explanation on how i can install some extra packages from them. I want to install camera drivers and xawtv to work out the camera id's.

Cordel, I can provide a web download of the CTU image, if that is acceptable. It is a little slow (1.5mbps upstream on a good day), but it is a good alternative to torrents. I'm on a wireless ISP which works well, but occasionally the signal will degrade due to airplanes. Currently it's a little weird due to ice on the antenna, but it works.

They update server is back up. Let me know if you have any problems.

@dastone
Yes, it's fine to host the image if you have space. I'm also now on a wireless connection so can't be any worse. The plan is to make a new one on FC6 but with the recent events, I'm playing catchup now. I guess the first order is going to be to start replacing machines and I'll have to make room here as having them remote as before didn't work out so well. The location that I was colocating at didn't have things properly grounded  but I didn't really have room here to keep all the machines.

PS 1.22.3 is not yet available on the update server yet. I have no way to test the package due to losing many machines in the storms we had here. I only have two left.

PSS If anyone knows a good place to pick up 2U and 3U cases in the states I'm all ears as I'll need to fit the new machines in a small as posible space ;) so far the best I found is through newegg. Also looking for advice on a mainboard for dualcore (or may wait for the true quadcore) proc with PCI Express to support a 3ware 9650SE-12ML card somewhere in the future. I see alot of boards that have the slot for video but can I use the 3ware card in it or do I need to be looking at the more spendy server boards????

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but....
I just picked up a couple ASUS P5N32-E Plus boards from newegg. They're a little pricey but the construction is top notch and after a week they are rock solid when overclocked 20%. Dual and Quad core is supported. I don't know if they support the card you mentioned but they have support for x16, x8, x1 and PCI2.2 cards. The key with these boards seems to be to use good memory, set the memory timing and voltage manually, and update the bios immediately.

A bit stuck

Post by fastbluelion »

Hi all,

Been on the forums a bit before now, but kept myself to myself really. I try to search before I ask! I'm having a couple of issues with ZM and would appreciate some pointers. I have very limited linux exposure up to now.

First up, I am running v1.21.3 from the standard FC3 Distro on the downloads page. Everything is pretty much ok, but I want to update to the latest stable version. This is what I get when I try to update:

Code: Select all

[root@localhost ~]# yum update
Repository ctu-updates-released already added, not adding again
Setting up Update Process
Setting up Repos

Cannot find a valid baseurl for repo: ctu-updates-released
I would do the update manually, but am struggling with compiling etc....I really don't have a clue, but would like to....

Second issue is to do with the streams. The streams have the bottom eigth at the top....if you get me!? On all cameras. The card is as follows:

Code: Select all

pci bus 0x0001 cardnum 0x0c function 0x00: vendor 0x109e device 0x036e
 Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture

pci bus 0x0001 cardnum 0x0c function 0x01: vendor 0x109e device 0x0878
 Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Audio Capture
It is branded LookC. Basically the hard disk died and I couldn't find the LookC distro so thought I'd try zoneminder as it works so well at home which it does exept for my small teething problems!

To save bothering people who have more difficult issues....is there a "simple" tutorial / guide anywhere I can use?

Many Thanks

Adam

I transfered my domains so they will be down for around a week total. Oncce they are back up you can just do a yum update.

Okay but I need the actual error produced in the end. All the pulic keys used are either on my web server or red hats that is available already installed on your machine which you can find by doing
locate RPM-GPG-KEY-FC3

and install the key
rpm --import PATH_TO_KEY

should the key be the case.

You should also be able to install my key in the same fashon
rpm --import ftp://download.computerntelecom.com/pub/RPM-GPG-KEY-CTU
