modect on low-cpu systems

Post by majik-br »

Can an Athlon 700mhz w/ 512mb ram handle motion detection on a 4cam system (bt878 chip capture card, color, 352x288)?

Whats the best modect preset to use on this case (Fast/Best)?

tks!

Since your request is rather vague, I can answer yes.
What load the machine is put through of course depends on your settings/configuration.
ZM can be made to work on a 486 though I don't suggest it. The big thing that affect what system needs to run ZM are:
  • Number of cameras
  • Image size and Palette
  • Frames captured per second
  • Images analyzed for changes (Mocord and Modetect)
  • IP cams require a bit more processing
  • Alarm Check Method in your zones
    etc.
Now all of these involve each other in your settings.
If you have a monitor with a 320x240 24 bit image at 3 fps, and set to either Mocord/Modetect the system also has to analyze those images at 3 fps. If you raise the fps, then this extra bit also raises what is expected from the analysis as well and same if you increase the image size would require even more.
Most settings in ZM depend on one another that can determine what kind of load you will have or what kind of hardware you may need to do what you want. These are just an example as it can be a bit more involved than just this.

As for your zones I would go with best and see what happens but I think this will be the least to be conserned with.
