anyone knows Brooktree Bt878 card?

Post by julien »

Dear all,

I am testing a DVR card (buy in local black-market, don't have any mark) based on bt878, actually have 8 channel, but when i try:
zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v: i only see 4 channel.
The problem is that when i try to config zoneminde with:
from /dev/video0(0) to /dev/video3(0), i see the fps about: 20fps- - 40fps but don't see any picture just only blue screen. Surely, i connected some good cctv camera.

Any idea will be very apperciated?

1- when i try: zmu -d /dev/video0 -q -v --> i get:

from the info posted it looks like an 8 chip card. You will need to find out what it is to get it to work in linux as its not autodetected. If you have an serial numbers model numbers etc id start there with google!

you will still need to tell linux exactly what card it is although you could try edding your modprobe.conf and adding

options bttv card=77,77,77,77,77,77,77,77

also please run a scanpci -v please so we may properly list this card.

Cheers,

James
the solution worked fine.
I still have some problems of image quality.
Thanks a lot anyway!

P.S.
What do those option actually do?
Greetings to all

the 77 tells the bttv driver that each each chip is a type 77 device and forces that choice as autodetection of the cheaper kit usually fails to work (a kit issue not a bttv issue)
forcing to type 77 make sthem work in a certain way. All card supported under bttv have differnt card numbers

hello,
first of all thanks for your answer.
then just for information, can these information be found in a readme or some kind of documentation that comes with the driver or comes from your experience?

my greetings to all and thanks to james.

Oh, by the way...
Pat Metheny Group published a tune called James in the "Offramp" album.
Very charming.
Perfect for listening while studying zoneminder and linux possibilities.
:)
Oops...
Another question:
While performing monitoring of the four input of my cheap card i found that the average fps where around 2,25 per camera (with four cameras configured) and _25_ with only one configured. Another chipset or zoneminder feature? And could it be that giving bttv the exact device number the capability could improve? Or some other option in zoneminder?
If any of the answer are in some other post or in the documentation of zoneminder i apologize!
Bye and see you!

If you have a single chip and switching between then 2.5 fps per input is about right. If you have multichips then its wrong and you have a setting configured wrong in the monitor settings
