More details, please
Right now I'm not sure if this is a packaging problem, or a zoneminder problem. Could you please go through at length the steps you've taken. Starting from what you've already said:
PJH
- apt-get install zoneminder
linked the apache config fragment
got to http://{hostname}/zm

Re: re :
The key part of the output is this bit
If you search on "shared memory" in the forums you'll find a wealth of posts about problems with shared memory, including two threads by me having troubles with them My initial guess is that, somewhere along the way, a block of shared memory got left around. But I could be wrong, and there's lots of posts about it.
At this stage I don't think it's specific to the debian package, though I'm ready to be proven wrong. Let me know how your search goes.

This isn't xawtv
Yes, but I've found zm to be much fussier about permissions. Specifically it seems to want o+rw.
change permission
How to change permission for dev/video0 for zm ?
i must change group in www-data and +rw ?

The simplest form is
either with sudo or as root.
However, I think you're right; it should be red (not orange) in the zoneminder screen if perms was the problem. So it doesn't hurt to try, but don't be too hopeful. Also, make sure you stop and restart zm around the change.
But basically I'm hoping someone like Cordel is going to jump in to this thread sometime soon as I'm running out of obvious suggestions.
Code: Select all
chmod a+rw /dev/video0

I was just getting up to speed on the package installation for Deb in the wiki so hopefully it's still correct. First I need more active log notes (See here for direction on this) or root ssh access to the machine (which info should be PMed to me for obvious reasons) so that I can look at the logs and make necessary changes. If you sources are showing up green then this is a good thing and usualy means that zms is able to capture an image from the device.
