Hello
I friend of mine gave me an "old" notebook.
Config is :IBM TkinkPad T20 mod 2647, PIII 700, 128 mb, 12GB HD.
I began to do a Low Level Format to the hard disc, first to delete windows,and to be sure it was an absolute clean disc.
Then i boot with ZM LiveCD 1.22.2, and install ZM on HD. After 3 hours of swapping between HD et CD nothing was going on.
I stopped installation.
I suspected it was a memory problem.
So i added 128mb for a total of 256 MB, and started again, and everything was ok. Installation completed successfully.

Ubuntu based Live CDs have issues with less than 256 meg of ram. If you want it on Ubuntu, install with the alt-install disk, and use the new deb package. It is getting very good, and more feedback won't hurt.

I don't understand what you mean by " alt-install disk " where shall i download it from ? is it this one from Zone Minder ?
ZoneMinder 1.22.3 Ubuntu Packages DOWNLOAD Thanks to the tireless efforts of Peter Howard there are now .deb packages available for some versions Debian and Ubuntu, plus source packages. Please note that as these packages are created and hosted by third parties, any queries about them should be addressed in the User Contributions forum.

Oooopps... I jumped right into Ubuntu without going into why. LiveCDs run in ram and you have very little. Of the various distributions out, Ubuntu is one of the simplest, and the one I use most. It has to methods of install, a LiveCD, and an alt-install text based install CD. You could also use the Debian floppy based install disks. Either way, the package based install is rapidly maturing, and may be the easiest way to install for a beginner.

But what you don't tell me :
is the package your are talking about only an OS ?
or (ZoneMinder 1.22.3 Ubuntu Packages from Peter Howard ) is the same that (Zone Minder fully updated version of Ross Melin's fine LiveCD vers 1.22.2 )?

Those package that we can download ZM site, ( http://www.zoneminder.com/downloads.html )
download part, at the bottom into Others Downloads ?

Sorry... Vacation. Much needed, I might add. :)

The Live CD I believe you are speaking of is Red Hat based. I like Debian based, and Ubuntu is one of the easiest flavors of that. Once you install the OS, you can install the nice package zoneminder_1.22.3-6_i386.deb for Ubuntu, or directly from the repositories in Debian. Thanks, Peter!

Either way, separating the OS install from the zoneminder install has some advantages in troubleshooting.
