No /dev/video

Post by kapock »

I am trying to install a PV-143 card. /var/log/messages shows "failed to open video device /dev/video". There is no /dev/video. I'm using RH4AS U4. Have been able to solve number of Linux problems but am confused about this one. Am I overlooking something real simple? "lspci" shows "03:08.0 Multimedia video controller: Brooktree Corporation Bt878 Video Capture (rev 11)". Can anyone help? BTW the card is recognized in a windows XP machine so assume it is working fine.

Any help welcome. Thanks. Kapock.

I went through the troubleshooting sections several times with no success. Just for kicks I rebuilt bttv and bingo, everything works. Had to have been self induced problem originally. xawtv works just fine as well as zoneminder.

Thanks.
