Configuring zones to minimize false alarms

Post by strav »

Here's the problem: On partially cloudy days (like today), the differences in light from clouds passing in front of the sun create a tremendous number of events. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to reasonable settings for the zone (threshold, alarmed area....) that would reduce or eliminate this.

Thanks

Hi Steve,

The simplest way to acheive the elimination of large changes in illumination is to set a maximum value for the alarmed or filtered pixels. The exact value will you will need to use depends on what falls in your field of view but maybe 50% or so would do. Another alternative if you have one or more areas that always falls into the area with a light change is to use a small preclusive zone to eliminate alarms when triggered.

Finally, you could always create a filter that deletes events that fit into the light change pattern, e.g. one or two alarms frames and a large score.
