Modect records non-events but misses real events..

Post by kdf »

Hey guys,

Having a bit of trouble with a new install... and im baffeled as to what to do :(

I'm gonna include screenshots where possible... take a look at this sequence !

As you can see it gets false positives (too sensitive maybe ?) right up until the car drives past but ignores the real event of the car actually driving past (not sensitive enough ??)

I have even set up zones to cut down on false positives !

Nighttime motion detection is very very bad.. basically unless you stand right at the bottom of the shot (on the driveway) it wont detect you.. (camera has IR lamps which seem to do an alright job). Would a better camera help IIRC this camera is 380 lines. Capture frame rate is 5.00fps 640x480 (interlaced). Zoneminder uses about 5% CPU peak and system load i always below 1.00

Thanks ![/img]

I'm in the same situation. Almost the same behaviour.

Hi,

Yes I was reading your thread with interest hoping to find an answer.. last night it rained real heavy here, that combined with the IR lamps and no rain/sun shield made for some very looooong recordings ;)

What type of camera are you using ? CCD or CMOS and how many lines does your camera handle ? are you transmitting wirelessly or wired ? :?

My current camera was 30 IR LED CMOS 380 line camera.. :( yep its a cheapo camera for sure. The picture is sent wirelessly to my computer. I've just ordered a sony 112 IR LED Super HAD CCD 520 lines with 6mm lens :D . I will post up how I get on and see if that clears any of the problems up.

If it doesnt I already have a MythTV system which I will setup a scheduled recording every night.. at least then I will have it on video if something happens

Same here. However that shouldn't really influence motion detection.
The image is sent via analog cable to a capture card inside the zm box. I use 384x288 PAL.

Can you provide a link for your new camera you just ordered?

Hmm,

Now im thinking its the camera more than ever.. As it happens my camera seems to have gone a bit funny.. all the images have a real green tint to them :?

CMOS camera's are not very sharp and provide a relativly low quality blury image. The camera should do the job in your case, my camera is outside and subjects are relativly far away making detection more difficult. I am more than happy to be the guinnea pig and let you know how this new camera works out if you are considering a new camera.

Its almost 10x more expensive than the first camera !! so I hope it will be good..

Here is a link to the ebay item I have bought.

Well around here you can't get any of these, and plus shipping is much more than I can afford. I'll have to stick with what I have.

Well, I post up if it made any difference..

I wouldnt be paying so much either but its cheaper than getting the big keyed scratch down the side of my car resprayed each time !
