can't switch to high resolution

Post by eric »

Hi,

I've setup an installation with 4 x BT878.
I can properly capture pictures at 352x288 @ RGB24
I can properly capture pictures at 640x480 @ Grey
But when I try 640x480 @ RGB24 (or other choices in color) it doesn't work, the /dev/video3 of the "ZM Console" stays red and no video comes out on the monitor.
You will find log below (/var/log/messages : initlized at 352x288 then switched to VGA) and details about the installation.

Does anoyone here has an idea of what could be wrong ?

With xawtv, I manage to capture images and make snapshots of 768x576 24 bits, so I think the configuration of the BT878 should be ok.

Many thanks for your help.
Best regards
Eric

Re: can't switch to high resolution

Post by zoneminder »

Hi Eric,

Can you check to see if you have another file /var/log that might be capturing error messages?

I suspect that if you can capture at 352x288 at 24bit and 640x480 at 8bit then it's a shared memory problem.

Assuming default setting for buffer sizes etc,

352x288 @ 24bit =~ 30Mb
640x480 @ 8bit =~ 30Mb
640x480 @24bit =~ 92Mb

so you need to check what the maximum allocation of shared memory is (See the README) and adjust this, or reduce the ring buffer size to fit in.

See if you can discover anything and let me know.

Cheers,

Phil,
