you have the zone set too sensitive, lower the sensitivity and that should fix it

Sorry to bump this topic back up but I'm having a very very similar problem... with a slight difference.

First off, yes, I'm pretty new to zoneminder, and I think it really rocks. I had been using IPView Pro on windows with a couple of trendnet tv-ip301 cams because zm and those cams don't play well together. Got new cams (though I WILL make those work too eventually) so now I'm zm'ing.

When I use the Fast or Best High Sensitivity presets, all is fine until there is an alarm, then the alarm will not end. However, using any other preset (mediums or lows) I can not get an alarm at all, even if I run around waving my arms, etc. I've made screencaps of the zone configs I'm using in case it helps anyone help me, since my terminology might not be accurate enough for you to see what I'm saying. Any advice would be appreciated.

Screencaps of my zone setups:

Thanks in advance. This seems like a really great support community.

Something that might help in addition to this thread is that you can look at the alamed stills of an event and on the top left of the page you should see a link "stats" that will show you what ZM shows affected in that frame. It will help you tune your zones.

Hmmm... granted there are a lot of frames in this latest grab (it went alarm when I left the house after lunch, I stopped it when I got home after work) but after looking at lot of the stills I can definitely see when it alarmed on my car leaving and coming, but I can't find any frames of the vast vast vast majority when nothing was happening that say anything other than "There are no statistics recorded for this event/frame" (if they have stats at all... a lot of frames have no stats link, but I guess that's normal?).

thanks for the response

Set zone sensitivity

Post by vtran4270 »

How do I set the sensitivity of the zone? I had preset set to 'Best, medium sensitivity' and still have the same problem.

Thanks,
Vu

the presets are just starters and only work on cif res.
try ssetting to low and see, or increase the percentages

I dont know if this is the best thread for this issue .. advise me otherwise.

There are definite bugs in motion detection that I'm seeing consistently on my AMD 32, gentoo system. I'll post error and log messages later on if I can isolate them.

I think these may be related :

1) a randon monitor will sometimes go into constant alarm mode using Modet mode. It gets stuck and there is actually no data being saved as far as I can tell. It also blocks real events from occurring for that monitor. It was previously working well and I have looked at all the sensitivity settings, but just goes into this error mode. Sometimes taking the steps to fix this below fixes the problem.

2) Occasionally a monitor will not modet under any conditions. This occurs when I cleared out all events for that monitor. I have hacked a solution by adding a row to the event table for that monitor and other times I delete the monitor and recreated it with another monitor ID.

These bugs will affect the reliability of ZM in its current state. I'll attempt to get more info to help debugging this.

I have the same problem from time to time, and after being stable for several months my ZM box is doing this again. One of my monitors is *constantly* in alarm mode, yet nothing is being recorded. I can stop it by restarting ZM or forcing an alarm and then cancelling, but within a few minutes it's back to being in alarm mode again.

No idea what caused this, but if I discover anything I'll post back.

Edit: I had been using the "Best - High sensitivity" preset for the zone. I've changed it to a simpler preset to see if that helps.
