UPnP Media Servers and cross server DB sessions

If you've made a patch to quick fix a bug or to add a new feature not yet in the main tree then post it here so others can try it out.

UPnP Media Servers and cross server DB sessions

Post by shoetick »

I've added multi-server DB sessions to my modified version of ZM and am going to add UPnP support to ZM for media servers and cameras for my job.

Are there any developers out there interested in forking ZM to a multiserver version with UPnP support?

The UPnP support would increase the number of MPEG-4 cameras that ZM would support also allowing ZM to support DVRs.

I have most of the code for the DB session already written so we'd just need to modify it a little and add options to add servers and DB tables to a pool in options. There would be two packages, one would be the central install on on a server with a DB with iptables preferably. And the second package would be used for installing on servers that use the remote central DB.

From what I've gathered so far the UPnP would require libupnp and gstreamer. It looks to be a lot of fun and challenging.

Any one got time and an interest in this? I have some hardware available to test with and servers we can use for development.

To my mind, the easiest way to get Zoneminder to spread even faster than it has already would be to make it easily scalable.

For every additional 4 cameras in a system, just add a mini itx box with capture card and 4 cameras recording at 5fps on each camera.

Add to this, define the length of each clip and have them archived onto a upnp raid nas in a standard codec and you've got a robust, accessible, fault tolerant system.

Run a upnp media server on the raid nas device and you can get to the clips on just about any device you've got lying around from wherever you might be at the time. :)

Hi,

I am interested in this. I would only be able to be a tester...I am not a developer. Has there been any progress with this? I can help where possible.

Thanks,

Mike
