zm successfully worked with theese cards:
GrandTec Grand X-Guard 4P (autodetected, 4 inputs)
GrandTec Grand X-Guard 16P (not autodetected, i had to force adding "options bttv card=103" in /etc/modules.conf, 16 inputs)
Aver-EZCapture (not autodetected but working, chip: BT848)

I am looking for a cheap solution for video surveillance, and I can get the GrandTec 4000 4-port for $82 online. My question, being a novice, is can I use any CCTV camera with this? Where does the power come from? The site says it uses 4 composit video inputs, which I am familiar with from A/V (tvs and dvd players and what-not), but I am not sure if this is "standard" CCTV hardware. I would like to setup some low-light bullet cams to monitor my home, indiscreetly. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you live in Australia (judging by the price you got the card for I'd say you might be in the US), I can give you some pointers for the cameras you might like to try and where to get them from. I've just set up a 4 way system using a 4 port Grandtec Grand X Guard card , one camera being located away from the main building. Three cameras see in the dark, one is only 2 lux rated as the area that it monitors is very bright at night. I can help you with expected coaxial cable length vs video performance vs cable quality, gauge of wire to use for power, potential methods for camera concealment, desired connectors etc too if you need it.

i would expect this is because the newer kernel in your other distro correctly autodetected the card. If you know exactly what your card is, you will need to modify the modprobe.conf file in /etc/ to include the line
options bttv card=<card no>
i use 77 or 82 on the cards i have

The card options are ok but my capture card width ZoneMinderLiveCd work not correctly. Why width Debian Sid my capture card work correctly?
I do not understand!
