Location of image paths in ZM

Post by KnightFire »

Hi guys,
this is my first post to the forum so please excuse any mistakes I make :-)

I have a problem viewing images that have been recorded in whatever shape or form. I get the broken link sign on any images captured. Changing the path location in the ZM console has made no difference.

I am not very good on Linux as yet (my experience was in supporting Win OS in the past) so having to change my mindset to the Linux way. So give me newbie status and be gentle.

The question I am asking is where are the locations of the images defined? Are they in Apache, ZM or MYSQL? I have no idea where to look first and I haven't found anyone else who has had the same problem in the forums (as yet). I have tried the searches and have found resolutions for other problems I have had but nothing to cure this one. I am a bit reluctant to re install as it took me so long to get it working in the first place but I will if this is the only cure.

At the moment my image path locations are set to default ( events and images respectively) in ZM>console>options>paths. I have the feeling that this is not the location they are being saved to by ZM but I am unable to find out where to check.

Sorry if this seems a little simple but I have spent alot of time trying to resolve it myself and I think it is time to ask for help. Is there is a post that either solves the issue or points me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

Sorry,

Forgot to mention that I can stream images fine and am able to watch the stream from the ZM PC, other PCs and the web. the only issue is the captured stills.

You have 2 ways. If you want see the images thru the browser, you can click at the event column that match with the cam and you will see all the history from the cam.
If you are at the zm server, you can go inside the zoneminder folder and click at events. The default path is /var/www/zm/event.

Sorry any english errors.

Thanks agilseguranca for your reply. It helped me out alot.

I realised I missed alot of detail and was a little vague to my problem but I only had a little time to write my query yesterday.

My set up is...
Cel D 2.26gz with 1gb ram
OpeneSuse 10.2
ZM vers 1.22.3
4 cams of various types and connections (scart, av, wireless, cmos, ccd)
None brand bt878 8port/8chip card (allows realtime on all ports) from Ebay

Just to clarify and update everyone... I had a problem of broken links whenever I tried to view captured images. I had the feeling it was to do with the wrong path to the captured files, causing it (which was correct in part).

agilseguranca got me thinking along the right lines and reminded me that I could use the browser to look in the folders (alot of time saved there with that advice). I had found the correct folder and was able to then find my solution soon after.

My path was /srv/www/htdocs/events. Through my testing, I found out that the folders in this location relate to the ID of the cameras NOT the name. I had setup and removed cams when trying to get ZM working in the past and the ID's were not in order via the console (eg. 1,9,10,11 as 2 - 8 were deleted. I haven't found a way to get them back as 1 - 8 as yet, but not a big issue). This and all the other things I had tinkered / broke in the past remembered and forgotten - mostly forgotten - were adding to my troubles. Alas, no images appeared in the folders. I remembered reading one of the posts on the forum about permissions of the folders. Mine were owned by root but the folders I had backed up were owned by wwwrun and group www. I did a chown and chgrp on the new events and images folders I had created to change their permissions. Once that was done, any events now caught now went straight into their respective folders where I can now view them at will via the console.

Sometimes you just need someone to point you in the right direction - Thanks again agilseguranca

Hope this helps someone else who had /has a similar issue.

And can I thank the guys who are producing and supporting this brilliant SW. I came across it by accident but it is an absolute gem. Tax and insurance for my car is due then you will recieve my donation.

you can check your zm.conf file for your paths.

default is /usr/local/etc/zm.conf

and as sais above image dir default is /var/www/zm/*

Thanks Laevi,

As you can see, we were writing/ posting around the same time which made me miss your post and you miss my success news.

That file will come in handy when I have to reinstall because I think my setup is non standard from the sounds of things (probably all the fixes I tried in the past).

Now the tweaking and testing begins - can't wait!!! :-)

I have a Windows based DVR system running at the mo and the sooner I see the back of it, the better. It cost alot and gave very little (web access to the camera stream was it's only saving grace) and the DVR card supplied is a cheap 'n' nasty 4port 1chip setup that can only be used with the nice looking but useless software (tried other sw but chip isn't recognised). I could only run 2 cams on it as the framerate dropped so low and slow if I had all 4 cams on, that my house would have been emptied before there was an image of it on screen. (Insert mass underbreath mutterings here).

Anyway, Thanks all for your help so far. Will try and catch up on some sleep now
