Installation Issue

I've just run through the process of installing zoneminder on one of my test machines at home and I think I've finally got most of it licked however when I try to run the zm startup script I get the error message below which I'm hoping someone here can help me with.

Starting ZoneMinder: Can't open log file: Not a directory at /usr/local/bin/zmpkg.pl line 152.

Did you set the ZM log directory to be anything other than /tmp? If so is it a directory that exists and is writeable by your web server user?
