A customer of mine is very unhappy with his current security camera software (I don't have the name - it's old and no longer developed) and is looking for an upgrade. I'd like to go the linux route, but first need to find out if his cards are supported.
The cards do not have a name on them, and he no longer has the box. They have a DB15 port which connects to a dongle with 8 camera ports. There are a number of chips on the card, and they read:
This is all I have to go on for now - does anyone happen to know the name/brand of these cards, or if they're supported by ZoneMinder? I could provide a picture of the cards, if necessary.
you should be able to use this card with no problem.
you may have to read a few posts regarding the 8 Cam setup but it's not to hard to do.
and you get plenty of help from the Forum Members.
Warning!
Geovision cards also use 878s. However they don't work. Get the live CD, and see if it can see the card in the existing system. The PLX chip could be a linux friendly multiplexer, or not...

this is the same Video PCI bridge used on a good few of the low/middle priced Video capture cards being sold on Ebay at the moment,If any one has got one working with ZM then i'm sure they will post and let you know.
85% sure your card will work with ZM but as Lee Sharp said try the live CD 1ST!!!!!
I had forgot that I posted this article, time passed, and I finally moved forward. Turns out that the cards are detected (using lspci) though I haven't actually installed zoneminder yet, but it should work out.
I would have gave the LiveCD a shot if I knew it existed before-hand.

So, yay.
Now, I don't know where to find my camera. dmesg says it should be at /dev/video0, right? Well I tried adding that as a monitor to zoneminder, and I'm not getting any images
The camera is a Bosch LTC0455/21. I only have one connected atm, but if things work out, we'll be using 2 8-port cards for a total of 16 of these.
I gave the LiveCD a run and tired it from there - nadda.
Again, dmesg | grep video and dmesg | grep bttv both produce good output (though it detects the card as GENERIC).
Installed xawtv (./configure; make; make install) and no video. xawtv -hwscan did show /dev/video0 - 3 (4 devices) so I tried specifying it (xawtv -device /dev/video0) and still nothing - a blue screen.
I changed the type to NTSC and the screen turned to black instead.
Maybe the camera isn't even on? heh. The camera has got warm after being plugged in overnight. Any way to make sure it's on or working right?
In case it's of any help, have a look at http://bttv-gallery.de/ (warning: it's a big page!) to see if you can identify your card(s). Try searching with sub-strings of the info you have although bear in mind that subtle changes can be made between card chipsets yet they may still work with the same configuration so it can pay to be a bit more relaxed with what you search on.

Nothing solid came back, though a few leads I have found:
The Kodicom 8800R (KMC-8800) looks pretty darn close, and matches the first block of numbers that I posted (PLX PCI6150). I found some information on the card (http://www.linuxtv.org/v4lwiki/index.ph ... edirect=no) and I'm going to give it a shot tonight. Hopefully the 4-chip card is pretty similar to the 8-chip card, which I have).
A number of cards are showing up with the Fusion 878A and 25878-13 chips.

I strongly advise you test your source as if you dont have something to use as a constant you may have a fully working card but think you dont

I am pretty sure that it is a Kodicom 8800.
I tried removing the modules (rmmod bt878 && rmmod bttv) and then re-adding the device (modprobe bttv gbuffers=16 card=102,102,102,102,102,102,102,102), which did work, to a point - the card no longer shows up as unknown/generic. I don't have the name with me, but it's something like TDC-200 in dmesg.
I was able to test that the camera itself is fully working (connected it to my TV via s-video), so the issue is definitely software-related.
