Hi,
what I want to do is to connect 7 up to 10 IP Cams to a dedicated PC with Novell SLES 10 running. I already installed zoneminder from web repository, and, after pre-installing the missing php- and mysql- packets,
it worked well.
The images from the cameras should be accessible from every PC in a LAN (up to 15 PCs with either Windows or Linux) via web browser. Some cams have Pan/Tilt/Zoom which should be also controlable via browser.
The built-in interfaces of some cams use ActiveX for PTZ control, so that
is not an option.
My questions:
Can I "connect" the cams to zoneminder as "remote" device without having Video4Linux running ? (I wasn't able to install it under SLES10 due to some Athena Widget incopatibility).
Is it possible customize / create php/perl scripts to use also the PT control of IP cams like Sony SNC-RZ25P or Panasonic BB-HCM580 ?

no you only need v4l if using a capture card.
The IP cameras can be controlled but you will need to know the protocol used. Panasonic's should already be in the system, and i belive someone has made a user contrib for the sony's
