Where can I get this one with Mandriva?

What do you think about Pluto and LinuxMCE platforms:

They look like they can do what ZM does plus much more incl. video surveillance and security.

It might be faster if you told us what you are trying to do here. There may already be tested solutions

So what do you think about that spec below?

Case Zooty GA610i (http://www.g-alantic.com.tw)
Mainboard VIA EPIA EX10000EG
Memory Elixir 1GB 533MHz DDRII RAM
HDD Seagate 250GB SATA2 5400rpm
ODD Pioneer DVR-215 SATA
Vieo capture PV-143N 4-channel (I only need 2-5 fps in B&W so I think this card should be fine)
Cameras 3x Topica TP-101BK

Is Topica a good brand/manufacturer? Looks like their cameras are quite popular. What do you think about their DVR TP-C104MDR (http://www.topica.com.tw/1/products-det ... uct_id=184)? It also costs only $180. Anyone tried them?

i think 3 cams at 5 fps each will be too much for it but id say 5-7 fps global would be fine

You might be able to use that hardware, but... First, no X. None at all... Just forget it. As a single chip, you will have the same settings for all cams, so 320x240 at an unlimited speed. And motion detection and the size of your zones will kick this thing hard. I would limit all clients to "Low " bandwidth as well. If you can find a 1.5ghz, get it!

If I set it at say 2 fps for each camera, what would be the difference between a PV-143 (1 chip for 4 channels) and PV-149 (4 chips for 4 channels)? Any benefit in 4 chips at such low fps? The CPU will still have to process 6 fps total regardless of the number of chips, right?

And what is your opinion about the Topica DVR TP-C104MDR (http://www.topica.com.tw/1/products-det ... uct_id=184)?

no difference but a mutichip card will allow scope for imrpvement later. 2 fps is the most that a single chip will do per channel accros 4 channels.

The cam i have no idea but looks like a cheapy cam so will perform like one. Im afraid I only install things like bosch and panasonic, as ive yet to find one of these that performs as well for as long.

Once again, I regularly get 4-5fps on chips split 4 ways. It depends on the card, and the hardware behind it. That said, he will likely get 2-3 on a single chip. If he goes with the 4 chip card, I am betting he will range from 4-15 with different speeds randomly...

I tried several distros and livecd options on my VIA EPIA but the only one that boots and works with my Pinnicale PCI HD PCTV card is watchdog.

I prefer the mandriva LiveCD Driver set but unfortunatly the only system I have available is the EPIA.

I guess the issue is with the EPIAs non standard i686 support ... if everything was compiled for the i586 I bet it would work fine.

I read a lot about problems with VIA drivers, hardware mpeg decoding etc. But this particular Linux distro looks very promising:

ill boot my via board using a live cd and let you know. I really wouldnt try anything too wierd and id stick to the tried and tested distros

I don't know if the livecd supports all VIA hardware (2/3D, Gb LAN, hardware mpeg etc.). The other reason is I also need an NFS file server on the same machine.
