What else can I say, I've been pulling my hair out trying to find a ZM solution that worked with my VIA EPIA mini ITX system, all the new distro's and other livecds crash ... they work on my wifes computer, but she's not willing to give up her computer to save me from switching VCR tapes

Indeed they crash. But I got way to get it work :
Install Ubuntu 7.10 alternate version . http://releases.ubuntu.com/7.10/
This version can handle the ACPI mode of the EPIA series.
On install it is also much lighter then other distributions.
