Hi, I'm back!
And great news - Zoneminder is working on my AMD box, no probs. So, if anyone is interested, I confirm that the following hardware works:
CPU AMD64X2 5200+
Mainboard Gigabyte M56S-S3 with nForce 560 chipset
Memory 2GB
Video capture card ProVideo PV-143N
Analog camera Topica TP-101CW
I managed to get a second hand video capture card and 1 camera to make it really cheap in case it didn't work. So I can't tell how it's going to work with 4 cameras but at least 1 is working. But the CPU was doing at 1800MHz while it's usually running at 1000MHz, with heavy loads it's running at 2000MHz. So even with 1 camera it stepped up a bit. I'm glad I didn't use the VIA board as I initially wanted.
BTW, do the Chinese have everything upside-down? I spent nearly an hour trying to figure out why I had no video from the camera trying all possible options, until I replugged the cable from the top to the bottom BNC connector. Hell, what I thought was channel 0 turned out to be channel 3!!! So, if you look at the card from its side, the very bottom channel is channel 0, NOT channel 3 as I thought. Hell!!!
Well, it's all good. Now I am ready to set it all up properly. One thing though, I've asked this before, but...
Could anyone please let me know how to set up dyndns? I've opened an account, I've set up a domain, I've got a ddns (or whatever it's called) client installed, then I tried to change various options in my adsl modem and router and managed to break my adsl connection so badly so that I had to reinstall factory default settings.
Has anyone got dyndns working? The best thing I could do was to get to my modem from internet, that is when I typed my dyndns domain it asked me for the modem admin password. Okay, but how do I get pass the modem, then pass the router to the desktop and to the Zoneminder? And then how can the dyndns can automatically update my dynamic IP? I could only do that manually. I went by their instructions and that was as far as I could get. There's a lot of stuff on firewalls, port forwarding, DMZ, filters etc. but I'm not a sysadmin, I don't know much about networks and how they work. Not yet.
Please help, without internet access the whole thing is pointless. Thank you.
