intermittent uglification of video stream

Post by semenzat »

My video feed occasionally switches into a mode where the
frames look like this:

Image

The blue and black bands move around between frames.

Power-cycling the computer or the camera seems to have
no effect. After a while the problem goes away by ifself and
the image returns normal. Any ideas?

I am suspecting the cable, which is rather long (100ft).
The capture card is the cheapest Bluecherry (4 inputs,
one processor) and the camera is a Sony bullet camera,
also cheap.

Thanks!
Luigi

[edit: the camera is actually a Topica bullet camera with a 1/3" Sony CCD]

Re-crimp the cable ends. Make sure you are not running over a florescent light ballast. Put a large ferrous core at each end. Swap a camera and see if the trouble "moves."

Thanks for the advice! I just got a second camera so I'll do some swapping
as soon as I catch it misbehaving again.
