I have pieced out a server for five 1.2megapixel IP cameras:
motherboard: Intel S3200SHLX (PCI-e x16,2xLAN, PCI-X)
case: Compucase 6920BS + 400W PSU
CPU: Intel® Xeon® UP X3220 (Quad-Core) 2.40GHz 8M
memory: 2x2GB DDR2 800 MHz
HDD's:
1. HDD: 500 GB 7200rpm, NCQ, serial ATA-II
2. HDD: 500 GB 7200rpm, NCQ, serial ATA-II
3. HDD: 500 GB 7200rpm, NCQ, serial ATA-II
4. HDD: 500 GB 7200rpm, NCQ, serial ATA-II
SATA adapter: integrated 6x SATA-II RAID 0,1,5,10
CD/DVD device: DVD+-R/RW DL, LightScribe
FDD: 1,44MB 3.5"
NIC: 2x 1Gb integrated + Intel Pro 100S/PCI
graphics card: MSI NX7600GT Diamond Plus(with HDMI for my TV)
I would like to use this computer as a fileserver as well. I will use Linux RAID10.
Is this configuration powerful enough? Is it a wise configuration for IP cameras storage server? Is it compatible with Debian/Ubuntu?
