The archive has been empty!!

Post by tanner »

I have just upgraded to 1.23.3 from 1.23.1 using the ebuild on gentoo. Everything went well except I could not stream the events. Looking at the forum someone had got round it by copying zms and nph-zms from /var/www/zoneminder/cgi-bin to /var/www/localhost/cgi-bin. Not wanting to do this straight away but wanted to look at why apache2 (which is using vhost etc) was not picking them up I looked at the zm.conf. I put the latest one in place and restarted ZM. It did not sort the problem but my archived events had all disappeared. Put the old zm.conf back in place and restarted ZM and they are still missing!!

Are they missing/deleted or is ZM failing to display the results.

Do the files of the archived events still exists?

I made a mistake of entering the wrong web folder when I upgraded from source (the --with-webdir parameter of the configure script). Zoneminder than looked at the wrong web folder and saw no event files and then automatically deleted all the events from the database.

Luckily I backed up the database before I tried the upgrade. I then reinstalled Zoneminder with the correct web folder, restored the database with the back up, run the update script and my archived events were back and working.

Thanks for the reply. I run Zoneminder on Gentoo which has a predefined ebuild script for the compile. Since I do not change the standard I do not think the problem happened at compile time. In fact the achives were there as I was trying to stream the events but it failed. They disappeared when I restarted the latest zm.conf.

Seems you were right the ZM_PATH_WEB changed in the zm.conf. So when I changed it and ZM restarted, it got rid of all the events. The zmupdate.pl asks if you want a DB backup, which I did . I restored from this but still no events. Seems it does not also backup the events. Luckily I had done an archive backup before the last upgrade and so have restored from these. Problem is now I can't stream the events again! but at least I can see the stills.
