I have recently built several systems using ZM and have had quite a bit of sucess thanks to the genius here at Zoneminder - Thanks guys!!
The last two systems that I built were on X86-64 versions of Fedora 8 and seem to have more problems than the 32 bit versions of Fedora 6 and 7. These systems are dedicated to the ZM camera system and have no other purpose. My question is, does the 64 bit OS give me any benefit with regards to ZM over the 32 bit OS?
Thanks.

The 16 camera system that I built has analog cameras only, but my problems center around streaming. If I attempt to view a camera or event at normal size all is ok, but if I try to magnify to 2x or larger then ZMS crashes with a segmentation fault. Also, I have had to change the color selection from RGB to RGB565 to help reduce streaking in the video around any motion. I hope this helps.

I asked a similar question on a non-zoneminder forum and the general response was that the performance gains were either non-existant or negligable, and the majority still weren't adopting 64 bit linux. The lack of adoption also translates into a lack of packages and bugs which haven't been fixed.
However, as ZM is more server based there may be some components which are better optimized for 64 bit.

BrownBottle,
What type of capture card are you using? By any chance is it a Kodicom 4400 style? I have recently started using one of those in a system and can't get any camera ports other than the ones "builtin" to the card itself to work. All external ones (port 4-5) give a sort of "double image" on top of one another. I have a thread in the hardware forum about this, but never got an answer from anyone as to what may be causing it.
If you aren't seeing this, and have this card, I'm curious as to what settings you are using for your bttv options.
