How to patch improwed motion detection?

I have tried to get the patch "zoneminder-1.23.3-motion-6.patch" to work, but I'm doing something wrong.

I'm a complite beginner in Linux, soo I installed from a liveZMCD 1.23.3.

I copyed the file "zoneminder-1.23.3-motion-6.patch" to /usr/lib/zm/bin. This directory contains files like "zma" and "zmdc.pl".

I loged on as root and started i terminalwindow, moved my self down in the directory and typed "patch -p1 <zoneminder-1.23.3-motion-6.patch" and later "patch -p0 <zoneminder-1.23.3-motion-6.patch".
Both returned:

missing header for unified diff at line 4 of patch

and several more simmular messages.

I am compitly lost.
Help!
