jpeg2000 idea

Post by jameswilson »

Reading another post just gave me an idea.
Is there such a thing as a command line converter of jpeg to jpeg2000?

if so is the extension the same, ie could we just use a filter to batch convert events from jpg to jpg2000, this would still work through the web i/f but would require a jpeg2000 lib on the client for ie etc.

If so and assuming this lib was mmx/sse etc then we could save at say 99 jpeg quality then convert every 15 mins?

Thoughts?

Imagemagick does conversions, and supports JPEG and JPEG2000 among many other formats.

Hi,

Yeah, jp2 is becomming more and more common. At the moment it is mostly used for medical and satellite imaging purpouses. It is also used in scientific data packaging since it is lossless http://www.unidata.ucar.edu/software/

I think you have to download a plugin to view jp2 images in IE or FF?
QuickTime seems to show jp2 in FF

Yeah, ImageMagick does it.
