Thumbs up to Bluecherry.net - Zoneminder LiveCD

If you've made a patch to quick fix a bug or to add a new feature not yet in the main tree then post it here so others can try it out.

Thumbs up to Bluecherry.net - Zoneminder LiveCD

Post by subliminal_boy_9 »

Last week, I ordered a new PV-155 to to into our second camera server here at the clinic. If you've ever been through the struggles of the initial zoneminder setup on a new system, dependent on distro, versions of php, apache, etc., you have to check this thing out.

Bluecherry has the CD's preconfigured for their cards, so you order a PV-155, you get the PV-155 CD. It would be easy enough to modify as needed - the important part is that the base system is there and works.

It's based off the xubuntu liveCD environment, install to hard drive is as simple as a few buttons pushed. On a "normal" setup with a single hard disk, it'll just work. Reboot, welcome to your new system. Without denigrating the hard work of those here who have done LiveCD work for us, this is a lot more polished and professional than what we've had available to us in the past.

I can scarcely express how cool this thing is, how polished it looks (largely due to the ubuntu folks), and how many hours it can save to the zoneminder beginner. I've put in my time learning how zoneminder functions - I can be done with that now. Awesome, awesome stuff. Plus you get the update system built into Ubuntu to take care of package updates to your system.

Next time you order from Bluecherry, throw one of these in. They're free. And worth every penny.

They do have one. Probably not for download though as a marketing tool :D
Besides I'm sure they don't want to pay for the extra bandwidth.

We might post the ISO images at a later time. I could see a bandwidth problem if the images became too popular. We share our T1 with another office so I dont want to slow them down.

Another issue would be support. We have no problems supporting existing customers who purchased the capture card + livecd. But picking up support for free downloads might cause a problem.

Existing customers who have purchased from us, but did not pickup a live cd, can simply email us their order ID and we'll provide them the link to download the ISO.

Thanks

A nice big 'donate' splash screen on the LiveCD would be appreciated! They're few and far between at the moment

The download is located @ sourceforge...

The word is supposedly they are working on a similar paid version similar to zoneminder. Linux Hybrid DVR/NVR that they can sell.

http://sourceforge.net/search/?type_of_ ... bluecherry

There ya go... sourceforge's bandwidth not theirs...
